“The world has in recent years experienced a succession of extreme weather events: America has endured a veritable cocktail of hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, droughts, and storms; in 2011 President Obama issued a record 99 major disaster declarations; flooding on an unprecedented scale inundated Thailand, China and Australia; a succession of extremely cold winters have proved costly in both northern and southern hemispheres. And this is only for starters…
This naturally leads to the question “What’s Up With the Weather?”
Our UK presenter, John Meakin, discusses in this podcast various background factors that are thought to be driving today’s climate and weather; humanly produced increases in carbon dioxide, ocean fluctuations, and especially the sun’s activities. Is it a warming world or a cooling world that is now dominating our weather and climate? You may be surprised by the answers, and especially by the intriguing twist in the conclusion that points to a little appreciated biblical perspective on the weather.”

A very interesting podcast and it certainly clarifies what’s really happening. Mankind actions do result in effects on the weather, but not necessarily in the way man thinks. It is certainly God who controls the weather and He will bring to pass the things the things He has said and are revealed in Bible prophecy. If the climate is cooling perhaps it will be to an extreme degree thus giving revelance to Christ’s warning on fleeing on the Sabbath and in the winter. A great subject, but I would love to see or hear one on the frequency and intensity of earthquakes over the centuries because the numbers occuring have jumped enormously in recent years.
An interesting reply Mr O’byrne as earthquakes may well be reated to climate in the sense that the peak
hot periods in the cycles melt the poles and as such alter the pressures on the plates by altering weight distribution. The problem I have with blaming God for all of the latter day weather disasters is who has done a study to show that one area of a country is more sinful than another. All of the recent activities in this regard have occured in those areas where they could be expected.
God’s reference in scripture is that He will warn His people of pending doom as in Sodom and Gomorrah
and they were specified targets etc.
I very much enjoyed the podcast. I look with such fond memories of the weather growing up in the Midwest in the 50′s and early 60′s. Very predictable seasons and several “Indian summers”. But by 1965 all bets were off. Warm winters, hardly any snow, hot dry summers. Then in the 1970′s scientists were predicting Global Cooling and the upper Midwest was brutally cold during many of those years. Now we seem to be in Global Warming. Really? I have always believed God is in control of the weather. Now if someone would please advise Mr. Gore, he could find a new crusade. I live in a snowbelt and I pray daily for snow just as many would pray for rain. We just never know what lies ahead but must live in faith that God knows best.
“It’s true! It’s true! The crown has made it clear.
The climate must be perfect all the year.
A law was made a distant moon ago here:
July and August cannot be too hot.
And there’s a legal limit to the snow here
In Camelot.
The winter is forbidden till December
And exits March the second on the dot.
By order, summer lingers through September
In Camelot.
Camelot! Camelot!
I know it sounds a bit bizarre,
But in Camelot, Camelot
That’s how conditions are.”
–Lyric from Lerner & Lowe’s musical Camelot
Because our brief human lifetimes are but an eye-blink in the total history of our climate and our total human activities are ifinitesimally small compared to the natural forces of the earth and the heavenly bodies, most of our conclusions about climate are similarly distorted.
Alexander Pope once observed:
“Hope springs eternal in the human breast: Man never is, but always To be Blest.”
What John Meakin was too polite to elaborate is that the God who is the source of blessings (including the blessing of suitable weather or climate)is also the God who is the source of curses (including bad weather or climate).
That God clearly spells out for humanity the conduct which will produce either blessings or cursings within His scriptures (some of which were quoted).
For any who really want to go into the subject in detail Leviticus chapter 26 and Deuteronomy chapter 28 are good starting points.
Their theme can be summed up by another scripture:
Prov. 14:34 “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.”

Of course I am unfailingly polite (!), but did you not watch all the way to the end where I mentioned the very things you say I did not? Perhaps you missed that bit. Bear in mind I have only a very limited time for each piece – you can, of course, follow up with the booklet I referred to. Or else check out my article a couple of years back in trhe TW on climate change. Cheers. JRM
good I think I,ll go back to selling firewood
so, is john meakins suggesting that we all just sit around and let god work out his plan?
No, he is stating the fact that obedience to God’s laws are required to fix the weather. By now it should be obvious that the world as a whole won’t do this, so the weather will deteriorate as God sees fit.
He is also expressing doubts about anthropogenic climate change, given the available data about natural fluctuations in climate.
the question was rhetorical. i’ve been studying climate change since 1968 and i realize there is a concerted effort underway to deny the contributions humans are having to the warming of the planet. although it is a very complex process, even your bible threatens us for not taking care of the planet. it is disheartening that people like mr. meachem are among those that concur with the efforts of deniers.

I’m sorry, but the whole time I was watching I was distracted by something in the background. Forgive me, but is that a Christmas card on the top shelf??? It looks like a Christmas tree….
Anyway, yes, God controls the weather and uses it to bless or to punish/correct as it says in Job 37. Also for His land- so the land will receive the REST that man refuses to give it.
M Alexandra is right! I recorded the podcast at the home of my elderly aunt in the Midlands. So this is not my home, and please be assured the card had nothing to do with me! Cheers. JRM
I believe God will carry out His plans whether we are sitting around, standing, or whatever feeble human activity we engage in. As Tim correctly points out, God can bless us with weather but He can equally crush us with bad weather. And these prophecies about the soil like brass and the lack of rain is a curse that will befall the US in the years ahead and it has actually already started I believe. Much of our economic collapse will be due to the destructiveness of the weather that will greatly diminish our food supply, increase unemployment, etc. And this will be another means to show us God is Lord over all.
I belive your’e right, I cannot remember where it was I read it in the bible but didn’t God say, ” You return to me and ill reurn to you, bit if you don’t return, I will send a plague, (cancer) and a third will die of the plague, if you still don’t return to me a third will die of famine, and if you still don’t return to me a third will die by the sword(war)”. As the official figures for cancer are 1 in 3, and no one is returning, maybe this is the second phase, its now May in the UK and I dont think I’ve seen a May as cold. Lets hope more do turn back before we get to the sword bit.
That was an interesting podcast. I agree that it is God who controls the weather, and the present (2012-2015) is actually the “End of Days” as prophesized in the Bible. I have been able to make a close enough connection to inner guidance (the Holy Spirit) that I can actually “see” weather patterns nonphysically ~ especially rainy weather. May I close this on the following note: “Thou art the God that doest wonders; thou hast declared thy strength among the people.”(Psalm 77:14) Thanks for sharing.

God is in Control of operating every thing in our world and beyound. God has given us a clear guideline on how to conduct ourselves in His world. unless we adhere to his rules. we will always fall short of His glory. We pray for enlightment, renewal of our Spirit and to walk in His Ways Amen.
I reassure you all that events are coming to pass in accordance with God’s divine plan. So, why does one think that God WOULDN’T be in control of this weather? He created the Heavens and Earth. If we make more conscious choices to see a larger picture within the grind of our mundane human lives we have every reason to expect joy, freedom from angst and common understanding. I am reminded through participation this forum that “Jesus means business!” Thank you, U.K. admin for the share.
Is that a Christmas tree card I see in the background?
So I’m not the only one who noticed the card…
The prophecy comes alive
I AM ATRUE CHRISTIAN AND A BELIEVER, THAT GOD DOES CONTROL THE WEATHER, THANKYOU FOR THE TRUTH GOD BE WITH US ALL, JESUS IS KING AMEN,
